WHO Declares New COVID-19 Strain JN.1 as 'Standalone Variant of Interest' Due to Its Rapidly Increasing Spread

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the new COVID-19 variant JN.1 a 'standalone variant of interest'. WHO's decision was prompted by the strain's 'rapidly increasing spread'. Media reports added that the new variants' characteristics and growth advantage over other strains in circulation prompted the early warning.

Though WHO assessed the global public health risk of JN.1 as low, it warned that countries approaching winter should be aware that COVID-19 and other pathogens may exacerbate respiratory disease seasons. "Despite this, with the onset of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, JN.1 could increase the burden of respiratory infections in many countries," it said.

"While there is a rapid increase in JN.1 infections, and likely increase in cases, available limited evidence does not suggest that the associated disease severity is higher as compared to other circulating variants," WHO said in its risk assessment of the strain.

Coronavirus vaccines are also expected to work on JN.1. "Current vaccines, including those based on ancestral strain as well as the updated monovalent XBB vaccines continue to provide protection against severe disease and death, including against JN.1," WHO's Maria Van Kerkhove said on social media.

He believes continued disinflation will turn into deflation for the first time since the 1930s, and that the central bank has a "weak" economy in its hands. "Since 2009, this has been 100% artificial, unprecedented money printing and deficits; $27 trillion over 15 years, to be exact. This is off the charts, 100% artificial, which means we're in a dangerous state," Harry Dent told Fox News Digital. "I think 2024 is going to be the biggest single crash year we'll see in our lifetimes." "I'm the guy that's praying for a crash while everybody else is not. We need to get back down...

Did Marvel drop Jonathan Majors?

Jonathan Majors Guilty of Harassment and Assault A Manhattan jury found the Marvel actor guilty on Monday of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault but acquitted him on two other counts.  The six-person jury found Majors not guilty on one count of intentional assault in the third degree and one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree. Majors, wearing a dark gray suit and seated in the courtroom with his attorneys and current girlfriend Meagan Good, did not react when the verdict was read. Judge Michael Gaffey set a sentencing date of Feb. 6. Majors faces up to a year in jail, but he could also be sentenced to probation. Majors still “has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name,” his defense attorney Priya Chaudhry said in a statement. “It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari’s story of what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause any injuries to her. We are gratefu...
